Purpose of Job:
This position is responsible for evaluating workplace health hazards through established exposure monitoring programs and assuring compliance with applicable guidelines to control occupational exposures. The position will report to the Manager of Occupational Health.
Key Accountabilities:
- Provides industrial hygiene and hazardous material support to the production units, laboratories, and maintenance personnel across the North American Region
- Performs industrial hygiene monitoring, field measurements, and hazard evaluations
- Compiles, verifies, and correlates data relating to occupational and environmental health hazards
- Develops monitoring reports and communicates results to employees
- Performs field reviews/audits to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
- Assists in developing and implementing occupational health programs for the Lake Charles Chemical Complex
- Inspects or evaluates workplace environments, equipment, and practices to ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, consensus standards, and Sasol policies
- Evaluates the adequacy of exposure control measures including ventilation, lighting, and other conditions that could affect employee health, comfort, or performance
- Maintains exposure monitoring equipment including calibrations needed to meet manufacturer specifications
- Maintains industrial hygiene documentation and information included within the data management system
- Provides industrial hygiene program training and guidance as needed
Formal Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Hygiene, Chemistry, Toxicology, or related field
Working Experience:
- 2+ years related experience in petrochemical manufacturing or related environment
Required Personal and Professional Skills
- Knowledge of regulations impacting chemical operations including OSHA, EPA, and DOT is required
- Knowledge of process chemistry preferred
