Job Overview and Responsibilities
SUMMARY:
• Individual accountability for site HSE, Quality, Productivity, and Manufacturing Excellence objectives
• Ensure all aspects/standards of the Responsible Care Safety Program are met
• Work in a unique operating plant which manufactures a wide range of finished products, involving the use of extremely hazardous raw materials.
• New product development and continuous improvement to existing formulations and procedures occurs continuously (greater than 125 process changes per year). Operators are required to review and comprehend all process changes.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• The Derivatives Operating Technician is accountable for the safe and efficient operation of the Welland Chemical Production Plant (Train 1 & Train 2).
• Responsible for achieving targeted product quality and production volumes while ensuring all of the Company’s Safety & Environmental protection standards are met.
• Accountable for all aspects of Derivatives
• Competency in all areas is required
• Attend required safety meetings and participate in SHE improvement initiatives in your work area
• Prevents spills of raw materials, intermediates or finished products, contain and report any inadvertent spill.
• Respond to unsafe conditions and report malfunctioning equipment
• Prepare equipment for maintenance work by isolating, depressurizing and decontaminating vessels, piping or equipment.
• Pressure testing and leak checking of vessels, piping or equipment.
• Preparing and authorizing work permits.
Education and Experience
Post-Secondary Education with a Bachelors of Science degree in related field (Chemistry, Biology, etc.) preferred
2-5 years of experience in chemical manufacturing highly preferred
Skills
Must have excellent analytical skills
Excellent communication skills and detail oriented.
Ability to manage multiple priorities.
Requires regular, dependable attendance on rotating shifts
