What is the Legal team responsible for?

The Legal team provides practical legal advice and service to the broader organization by reviewing and analyzing the laws and regulations of the legal jurisdictions in which Franklin Templeton operates. Our in-house corporate attorneys interpret these laws and regulations and advise the business on actions required to comply with legal and regulatory obligations.  They also guide the business on appropriate courses of action to minimize risk from financial or reputational loss.

What is the Trademark Paralegal responsible for?

The Trademark Paralegal will focus on managing all facets of the Company’s global trademark portfolio and assisting with other intellectual property matters as well as assisting with licensing and other inbound and outbound contracts.

What are the ongoing responsibilities of a Trademark Paralegal?

  • Managing the global trademark docket and associated deadlines
  • Preparing trademark applications, declarations of use and other filings with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office
  • Handling foreign trademark prosecution in coordination with local counsel/trademark agents
  • Drafting and managing correspondence with foreign and US outside counsel
  • Processing related outside counsel and vendor invoices
  • Preparing Powers of Attorney, Assignments and other documents and securing legalization
  • Reviewing proper trademark use and reporting to internal stakeholders
  • Researching laws, regulations, and policies applicable to the Company
  • Helping to develop and draft internal intellectual policies
  • Research and monitoring for trademark infringement
  • Drafting cease and desist letters
  • Drafting and review of certain licenses and vendor agreements
  • Collecting and reporting data relevant to licenses
 What ideal qualifications, skills & experience would help someone to be successful?

  • 2 to 5 years’ on-point trademark paralegal experience at a law firm or major in-house legal department
  • Be client-focused with excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing
  • Significant experience with trademark docketing software (preferably WebTMS)
  • Eagerness, willingness to learn and a drive for client success
  • Self-starter who can work with limited supervision and adept at multi-tasking in a fast-moving environment
