AES Clean Energy (AES) is currently seeking a Project Manager, Business Development – Hawaii to manage project development efforts for AES projects in Hawaii. The position will be a member of AES’s Greenfield Business Development team and report to the Program Manager – Hawaii. The Greenfield team is tasked with internal self-origination and development of solar and storage projects. The successful candidate will support the Program Manager – Hawaii with the management of project development efforts on AES greenfield projects in Hawaii from after a project is originated and contracted through to construction commencement. This includes supporting project permitting, coordinating site studies and diligence, stakeholder management, managing the interconnection process, managing project development budgets, contract management and ensuring projects successfully reach construction commencement.
AES has a strong presence in Hawaii with multiple projects under construction and a large pipeline of solar plus storage projects in development. AES has projects in development, construction or operations on Oahu, Maui, Hawaii Island and Kauai.
This position will be based in Hawaii and reports to AES’s Program Manager – Hawaii. The role requires the ability to manage multiple projects, attention to detail and travel as needed. The successful candidate will work on a cross functional team with origination, legal, finance, engineering, construction, and outside consultants, landowners, customers, project stakeholders and utility companies. The role requires project management knowledge, project development experience and ideally renewable energy industry experience.
Key Responsibilities:

Manage all aspects of development for one or more AES Hawaii Greenfield projects from contract execution through to construction commencement

Represent AES in Hawaii professionally and competently during all aspects of project development

Coordinate project outreach and support community meetings with AES Community Relations Manager

Support in management of key stakeholders for each project

Develop and manage project development schedules and budgets

Report regular updates to schedules and budgets to the Program Manager and senior management

Identify and clearly articulate project risks, opportunities and recommendation action(s)

Utilize AES financial and project management system(s) ensuring key project information is up-to-date and accurate

Process contracts and agreements with external vendors for project-related services

Lead project meetings, develop agendas and action items as needed with internal and external stakeholders

Manage contract obligations in key project documents (Site Control, PPA, etc.)

Coordinate Project Discretionary Permitting including permit strategy, tracking permit efforts, working with local AHJs, consultants, counsel and Program Manager

Presenting at permit hearings and public meetings as needed

Coordinate site diligence in conjunction with internal teams and consultants including critical issue screening, environmental studies, surveys, diligence reports, title review, property tax matters, community relations, etc.

Assist Program Manager and Director in managing the Interconnection process

Coordinate internal and external teams to advance engineering and design to meet project schedule and milestones

Coordinate with construction management team as needed on securing ministerial permits

Participate in Project Handoffs once fully developed and permitted to construction management team

Participate in project financings answering relevant diligence questions and providing required documents

Coordinate additional resources or outside consultants/contractors as well as managing contracts and agreements throughout project development.

Assist the Greenfield Development team as needed and applicable on upfront origination efforts in Hawaii
Skills and Qualifications:

At least 5 (five) years of project management and/or development experience preferably in renewable energy or related field

Undergraduate degree, preferably in engineering, project/construction management or equivalent

Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines

Extensive knowledge of project development, permitting, contracting

Familiarity with renewable energy project development, utilities and interconnection

Extensive knowledge and history working on projects in Hawaii, preferably renewable energy projects

Knowledge of renewable energy technologies
-
Knowledge and experience with hydroelectric facilities preferred

Excellent oral and written communication skills are required including public speaking and/or platform skills for executive management presentations

Self-starter, very self-reliant and capable of operating with minimum supervision

Willingness and ability to travel as needed, primarily inter-island flights and local meetings but occasional trips to mainland US to visit AES DE Louisville, CO headquarters

Energy storage knowledge
-
Experience utilizing CRM systems and developing metrics.

Comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
