Prototype Developer 2 – Corporate Design

Seeking a talented exhibit / display / model builder to join our Corporate Design team. You’ll be part of a multi-disciplinary group of designers and builders that design and develop in support of Garmin’s worldwide trade show, sales, and retail efforts. Your talents and craftsmanship will primarily support our growing marine, aviation, outdoor, and fitness markets.

Join us in our 35,000 square foot design studio and well-equipped shop with extensive design and prototyping technology and equipment. We’re looking for a motivated individual with the technical abilities, problem solving skills, and positive attitude to collaborate with our highly skilled ID design team.

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

A Garmin Prototype Developer (Level 2) executes the construction planning and fabrication of concepts, prototypes, displays and exhibits for the various engineering, tradeshow, sales, and marketing efforts the team is supporting. Collaborate with Designers, Engineering, and Marketing, to explore, innovate, and execute world-class solutions. You will utilize your knowledge of fabrication processes, software, computer aided machining, and shop tools to achieve project goals and high quality standards.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

• 3 + years’ experience performing the essential functions of the job
• Associates of Arts and/or equivalent experience performing a role substantially similar to the essential functions of this job description
• Proficient model building, fabrication, project organization, and communication skills.
• Ability to understand clients’ needs as they relate to model making and/or prototyping
• Ability to act as project lead who guides the direction of projects to obtain design intent
• Ability to estimate the level of effort for a task, and adhere to schedule and budget
• Proficiency in shop processes (carpentry, machining, heat forming, fixtures, etc.)
• Experience working with Model Shop equipment such as saws, milling machines, routers, jointers, drill press, sanders and hand tools
• General knowledge and usage of SolidWorks or other 3D design software
