Position Description
In this position as an Engineering Specialist II you will be responsible for providing remote service and control system technical support of Trane National Service and Trane Intelligent Service customers. Responsible for the remote maintenance, operation, diagnosis and programming of various HVAC control systems. Excellent customer service skills and technical documentation of worked performed are required when communicating with our external and internal customers, technicians and administrators. As an Engineering Specialist II you will be able to setup, maintain and make control system adjustments utilizing knowledge of the various HVAC mechanical systems and equipment such as fluid cooling systems, packaged air conditioning units, variable air systems and various other HVAC system configurations. Specialists in this role will need to apply basic electronic theory, modulating control system principles, airflow dynamics and basic refrigeration theory in their daily work activities.
Essential Job Functions
- Responsible for end to end testing, downloading programming, starting up, commissioning, and servicing on assigned projects.
- Uses a variety of hand tools, interpreting control drawings, plans, and specifications, to mount, assemble, test, and program the system.
- responding to control system alarms and customer requests,
- Analyzes, diagnoses, and repairs direct digital control systems remotely or at customer’s location.
- Performs controls remote preventative maintenance, site surveys, replacement, and modifications as needed.
- Prepares for remote or on-site installation and repairs by examining building layout, anticipating difficulties and providing service suggestions for on-site work, as required by Trane National Service and Trane Intelligent Service customer agreements.
- Provides training and follow-up training for Trane National Service and Trane Intelligent Service customers and personnel as directed.
- Documents work by following pre-defined remote service procedures and completing documentation of remote service performed and customer contact.
- Turns in all required paperwork and reports in a timely manner.
- Keeps current on Trane products concerning installation, operation, maintenance, service, and repair of direct digital control systems.
- Provides technical support to Trane National Service and Trane Intelligent Service customers and personnel as directed on assigned projects.
- Flexibility to work overtime/weekends, as required.

Education, Experience & Skills
- Associates degree or equivalent from two-year College or technical school or 5 years experience in control systems; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 2 years minimum working with Building Control Systems.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
- Ability to understand and apply temperature and pressure theories as well and basic electrical theories and application.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establishes facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
- Valid driver’s license required.
