Join us on our diversity traineeship programme to experience the world of engineering and strengthen your skills in Maths, English, Science, whilst developing your employability skills.

What is the Diversity Traineeship?

A traineeship is a course with work experience that helps to get you ready for work or an apprenticeship with Rolls-Royce . This programme is delivered over one year at our dedicated Apprentice Academy, in the Rolls-Royce Learning and Development Centre in Derby. During the programme, you’ll improve your literacy and numeracy skills, alongside leaning  about our values and behaviours. You’ll also complete a week of work experience each term in one of our Derby sites and be partnered with a coach to help with employability skills like CV writing and interview techniques.

Our traineeship programme is targeted at underrepresented groups, including those from a Black, Asian or minority ethnic background or females looking to pursue a career in engineering

What will I get on the programme?

You’ll be supported by Derby College to improve your literacy and numeracy to be ‘apprenticeship ready’ by the end of the programme.

You’ll also get

  • Employability and interpersonal skills sessions, such as writing a CV and interview techniques

  • Work experience within one of our Derby engineering sites

  • A mentor and buddy to support you through the programme

  • Help with digital skills and other vocational skills

  • Feedback throughout the programme from a personal progress coach

  • A Rolls-Royce traineeship certificate to reflect learning (on completion)

What are the entry requirements?

You must be from one of the under-represented groups, be aged 19-24, unemployed and have little or no work experience, and eligible to work in England

You’ll have at least a D (Level 3) in GCSE Maths and English Language, plus two other GCSE’s at grade C’s (Level 4) including one of the following subjects; science (excludes biology), technology (excludes food technology), or engineering at GCSE.

You’ll also need

  • An interest in the practical side of engineering, making and creating things

  • To be open-minded and curious and adaptable

  • A love of new skills, and interested in pursuing an apprenticeship

What happens after the programme?

Providing you meet the entry criteria you’ll be given the opportunity to apply to the full Advanced Practical Apprenticeship which brings together on-the-job learning and classroom study. You’ll get plenty of training, guidance and support to develop invaluable skills, gain relevant qualifications and establish a great foundation for a successful engineering career.

Applications are open until mid-day ( 12.00 GMT) on the 4th June 2021. If your application is successful, you’ll be contacted to complete an online test with Derby College and then attend our virtual interview day.

This traineeship will start on 26th July 2021.
