Senior Accountant, Fund Finance

Our lean, fast-paced Company is seeking a Senior Accountant, Fund Finance, to join our energized team.  Located in Chicago or Louisville, the Senior Accountant will be responsible for the monthly close and consolidation of three growing investment vehicles and preparing a wide variety of internal and external reporting to investors and internal stakeholders. The candidate will be a member of our newly formed Ventas Investment Management (“VIM”) team. This position is well suited for an experienced accounting professional looking to help shape the rapid growth of a new business unit.

The Senior Accountant, Fund Finance will play a role in building and supporting the exciting, rapidly growing VIM business unit. Ventas is a highly successful, ~$30B enterprise value publicly traded health care real estate investment trust with a 20+ year track record of excellence. VIM is a strategic growth platform for Ventas. Having established a perpetual open end fund (the “Fund”) with $0.8B of health care real estate assets under management in 2020, VIM has already grown assets under management to approximately $3.5 billion through the Fund and other joint venture vehicles.

This position will assist the VIM team in establishing and enhancing the financial processes, controls, reporting and operations for the Fund and other joint ventures.  This position will have interaction and exposure to the Ventas Executive Leadership team, the VIM team, Asset Management, Investments, Treasury and Accounting teams. The role will also interface with the Fund administrator, investors and joint venture partners.

This position will be primarily involved in the month end close processes and internal financial reporting.  Primary areas of responsibility include review of consolidated financial statements, analysis and review of assets, liabilities, revenues, and expenses, joint venture accounting and bank reconciliations.  Other duties include oversight of fund administrator’s work, reconciliation of intercompany balances, calculation of property distributions, and fair value GAAP adjustments. This position requires a great deal of energy, positive attitude, attention to detail and the ability to effectively handle multiple tasks with minimum supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Under the supervision and review of the Director, Fund Finance, responsible for financial close of VIM open ended Fund and other unconsolidated joint ventures

  • Responsible for calculating and recording G&A accruals (including legal expense) and preparing G&A budgets

  • Responsible for calculating and recording noncontrolling interest entries

  • Responsible for recording valuation mark to market and waterfall adjustments

  • Responsible for recording equity pickup for Ventas’ share of unconsolidated joint ventures and owning the calculations to support relevant schedules in the Ventas quarterly/annual public filings and supplemental

  • Prepare various sets of financial statements and footnotes for investor and lender reporting needs

  • Coordinate with auditors to provide requested support in relation to the various audits of the VIM structures

  • Assist with support for SEC documents in relation to VIM unconsolidated joint ventures

  • Analyze and review the balance sheet (including reconciliations as needed) and P&L of assigned entities

  • Assist with preparation and review of monthly internal reporting package

  • Work closely with 3rd party service providers as applicable for certain ventures

  • Prepare various journal entries

  • Review bank reconciliations

  • Serve as back-up to other accountants

  • Assist with other special projects as needed

  • Prepare various analyses as called upon by management

  • Significant interaction with other areas of the company

Qualifications

  • 3 – 5 years relevant corporate and/or public accounting experience

  • “Hands-on” type of person required

  • Ability to complete tasks without a high degree of supervision

  • Communicate effectively

  • A working knowledge of US GAAP

  • Cash Flow, joint venture and fair value experience preferred

  • High level of proficiency with Excel

  • Working knowledge of G/L and financial reporting systems

  • YARDI, Workiva Wdesk, and Longview Close experience are pluses
