Senior accountant delivers accounting and reporting support for Globe Life’s $20 billion investment portfolio, which consists of fixed income securities, equities, mortgage loans, investments in limited partnerships and other alternative assets. This position provides investment accounting for the holding company and seven life insurance subsidiaries. This role will be a leader and key contributor to the investment accounting responsibilities and processes, which includes GAAP and insurance statutory accounting and reporting, regulatory reporting, rating agency surveys and compliance monitoring.
- Research, interpret, document and implement new accounting releases
- Review, maintain, refine and ensure compliance with internal controls
- Ensure accounting policies are documented and compliant with US GAAP and insurance statutory reporting requirements
- Coordinate the implementation of new accounting standards
- Research GAAP and statutory accounting associated with new investment strategies and monitor changes to accounting rules and policies, and assess the potential impacts to Globe Life and its subsidiaries
- Prepare and review quarterly and annual statutory statements, annual audited statutory reports, subsidiary board reports, risk-based capital and other supplemental reports, and annual investment surveys
- Review and maintain investment data required for GAAP and statutory accounting and reporting
- Review and report investment transactions
- Prepare annual investment surveys
- Coordinate and collaborate closely with investment managers, investment operations, tax corporate accounting and financial reporting
- Prepare general ledger entries and month-end reconciliations to the general ledger and custodian accounts
- Review statutory disclosures prepared by Investment Accounting specialists, and audited statutory financials for accuracy, consistency and completeness
- Assist with inquiries from internal and external auditors
- Ensure compliance of portfolio holdings with relevant investment limitations
- Perform periodic system data reviews to ensure accuracy and completeness
- Lead special projects for the department
- Address investment accounting specialists questions and resolve challenges
Required Skills
- Advanced knowledge of US GAAP or insurance statutory reporting concepts
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills

- Microsoft Excel – intermediate to advanced level

- Wings annual statement software a plus

Required Knowledge & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- Minimum five-year’s experience in GAAP or insurance industry reporting or relevant experience
- US GAAP or Insurance Statutory Accounting reporting experience required
- CPA preferred
- Public accounting experience preferred
