Senior Director Commercial – UK and Nordics

The role:

Reporting to the VP, Head of EMEA region, the Senior Director, Commercial – UK and Nordics will be responsible for the Commercial Operations and overall business across UK and Nordics with P&L responsibility.

He /she will be acting as a strong leader with a hands-on approach.  It is a must that the candidate has prior general management experience with new product launch experience in the vaccines filed, and/or oncology or autoimmune diseases. The Senior Director Commercial should have the potential to become a full General Manager within next 24 months with the expansion of the Moderna innovative portfolio.

The ideal candidate will bring in robust general management skills and experience in the selected geography, a strong track record with achievements and results demonstrated over time and the right entrepreneurial spirit, coupled with an anchored team-spirit approach. He/she will have to manage multiple influential stakeholders at the political level, industry associations, professional institutions, advocacy groups and of course the medical community.

Deep knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry (vaccine experience preferred), the competitor landscape, and key government & payers’ stakeholders should allow you to effectively work externally and advance our company strategy allowing patients, payers and the company to create and extract the substantial value from our innovative solutions. Furthermore, through the candidate strong knowledge of the bio-pharma industry and deep understanding of the country health systems & priorities he/she will identify the relevant healthcare national/regional needs and develop appropriate programs to address them.

Here’s What You’ll Do:

  • Establish and develop the country PRA strategy in close collaboration with the EMEA regional Pricing, Reimbursement and Market Access team.
  • Lead all pricing & reimbursement negotiations with the local authorities including any anticipated national/regional future tenders.
  • Responsible for growing the business of his/her product portfolio in the territory
  • Anticipate the private market opportunity for vaccines in parallel to the government immunization programs to ensure that when this opportunity will be available, we will be ready for it.
  • Lead engagement activities with the key experts and stakeholders, in partnership with the Medical function.
  • Drive the multichannel thinking by anchoring a strong Customer Experience Mindset and leveraging and accelerating Digital & New technologies deployment across all functions and interactions
  • Contribute to the development and of course the execution of local country strategies in close collaboration with the marketing & medical teams and champion the HQ/Regional – affiliate collaboration to ensure our customers’ needs are met with speed and quality
  • Ensure full compliance with all applicable laws, codes, and regulations in the country / cluster
  • Secure political support for the funding and timely regulatory review and approval for all vaccines/therapeutics in Moderna’s pipeline
  • Drive vaccines & infectious disease policy shaping strategy and execution at the local level
  • Align on trade association engagement strategy and represent Moderna externally in relevant policy discussions and the interactions with various bodies in Industry associations
  • Identify and support opportunities for leadership in external forums and events regarding vaccine development, access, pricing, immunization systems and deployment
  • Contribute to the development of an inclusive & team-minded culture where constructive confrontation of ideas are valued, and where results orientation and taking bold initiatives matters
  • Drive launch excellence for the Moderna innovative portfolio (vaccines & therapeutics)
  • In partnership with the Communications team, engage with key/selected media, closely collaborate with the local PR agency

Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table:

  • Higher University degree (PhD or Master) in life science, Business Degree, Public Health or Law (PhD plus Business Degree preferred)
  • Robust General Management experience (min 10 years) out of which minimum 5 years in the respective country / cluster in the bio/pharmaceutical industry (General management, Commercial Government Affairs & Markets Access).
  • Proven ability to develop external networks
  • Strong oral and written communication skills to influence and effectively engage internally & externaly
  • Strong sense of priorities and able to handle various projects simultaneously, sometimes with short timelines
  • Experience working with industry groups and alliances
  • Strong diplomatic & interpersonal skills and able to inspire respect and trust from others
  • Strong negotiation skills and ability to influence without authority
  • Strong business acumen, analytical skills and sharp learning agility
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with regional & global partners
  • Demonstrate ability to lead boldly and collaboratively
  • Fluency in English – fluency in one of the Nordics language would be great but not essenti.
