Senior Investment Risk Manager

Your Role

Responsibilities include understanding, supervising and anticipating the risks of various portfolios, executing ad-hoc projects that involve devising and/or implementing new ways to analyse risks or new types of risks, and explaining them to various investment professionals.
You will be responsible for:  

  • Monitoring adherence to process/mandate and client expectations as advised for specific portfolios
  • Performing risk analysis on portfolios as well as benchmarks, reporting on market, liquidity and concentration risk. Typical measures will include forecast tracking error, downside risk and Value-at-risk (incl. back-testing and stress-testing)
  • Decomposing and explaining forecasted portfolio risk at granular level
  • Anticipating risks, analyse them, and communicate them
  • Conducting custom analysis as a support for the risk management process for the relevant portfolios
  • Creating custom computer programs/macros, as needed, to facilitate portfolio analysis and direct junior risk staff on implementing such design
  • Crafting/developing/improving existing quantitative models/tools to help supervise and handle risk as well as explain performance
  • Designing reports and partnering with the members of the analytics team, to deliver tools to facilitate the understanding of risk across the department
  • Providing challenge to Fund Managers and peers, from a risk perspective and able to communicate risk matters to senior management and fund boards (Written & Oral)
  • Building and maintaining excellent knowledge of products, investment processes, trading strategies, market characteristics and good knowledge of regulatory requirements/environment
  • Opportunity to contribute to the continued improvement of the risk management frameworks and complex risk related projects (market risk, credit risk)
  • Interacting with analytics and performance attribution analysts using multiple attribution models to assess portfolio manager skills and communicate requirements
  • Opportunity to conduct and/or direct junior members on research and quantitative/qualitative analysis of portfolios
  • Predominantly be explaining to internal stakeholders but will on occasion have to speak to clients mainly through Due Diligence or client review meetings, purely as an information giver.

 

The skills and experience you’ll bring 

You have:

  • Financial industry experience, ideally in the asset management industry with experience of analysing portfolio risks. Experience of working with fund managers and helping them understand the risks in their portfolios
  • Excellent understanding of Equity markets with a focus on fundamentally managed equity portfolios.
  • Knowledge of SQL, Excel VBA, R and Python desirable along with experience in statistical software. Good understanding of financial instruments including derivatives, municipals, securitized, and inflation linked bonds and a familiarity with international markets.
  • Solid understanding of risk models/methodologies. Experience with one or more of the following systems desirable: Barra, PORT, BlackRock, RiskMetrics, CRD.
  • Strong knowledge of industry and local regulatory standards in risk management.
  • Experience of multi-asset portfolio risk an advantage.
  • Master’s degree in quantitative subject such as Statistics, Financial Engineering, Computer Science.
  • CFA, FRM/PRM and/or MBA (Finance) are desirable
  • Excellent problem-solving capability.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Attention to detail with a curious nature.
