More specifically the successful individual will:
- monitor compliance and data practices internally to ensure the company and its functions comply with the applicable requirements under the GDPR.
- assist in the creation of a risk-based, commercial approach to data use, management and security that balances the privacy requirements of customers with the company’s objectives, whilst simultaneously facilitating technological innovation.
- be able to work effectively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders. Prioritising effectively and managing diverse and multiple requirements, while overseeing the work of external counsel as needed.

Key Responsibilities include:
- Help develop and agree strategy and key priorities for Group Privacy, in light of future legislation, external developments and key commercial drivers.
- Identify and evaluate the company’s data processing activities and perform audits and determine whether we need to alter our procedures to comply with regulations.
- Develop and lead an external strategy to influence key stakeholders across government, regulatory agencies (The Information Commissioner’s Office) and industry bodies to shape and influence forthcoming regulatory policy or legislation.
- Oversee the data privacy risk framework which assesses and mitigates risk in all areas across the Group including, Data Insight, Strategic Collaborations and Partnerships, Information Risk and Security; Procurement; HR
- Drive the engagement of key internal stakeholders to ensure that privacy is at the heart of Centrica’s commercial strategy.
- Drive greater awareness of data privacy across Centrica group companies through leading design and deployment of training initiatives and awareness campaigns.
- Oversight of the delivery of privacy-related policy, processes, practical advice and guidance for front line retail operations.
- Follow up with changes in law and issue recommendations to ensure compliance
The person
- Experience of leadership with the capability to develop high performing teams.
- Experience in developing policy and compliance training would be an advantage.
- Experience of working in a consumer facing, regulated industry and an understanding of wider regulatory pressures.
- A strong working knowledge of GDPR and a good understanding of other major privacy frameworks.
- A keen interest in the relationship between privacy and technological developments/innovation.
- Commercially aware specialist, capable of applying regulatory principles and frameworks to complex commercial and operational arrangements.
- Excellent organisational, written and oral communication skills.
- Well-developed and professional interpersonal skills; ability to interact effectively with people at all organisational levels of the company.
- A good understanding of information technology and data management systems would be beneficial.
