Astellas Pharma UK have a new opportunity for a Medical Scientific Liaison Manager (MSL Manager) to become an integral member of the Medical Affairs leadership team to develop the strategy and oversee the deployment of tactical plans for engagement with the medical/scientific community, leading and managing the UK MSL team within Oncology and Specialty medicine, ensuring the MSL’s engage in scientific exchange as peers and trusted advisors.
This is an exciting time join the team and collaborate with the EMEA MSL Community and lead the UK MSL team to enhance the existing portfolio of established products as well as the strategic launch of new innovative medicines over the next three years.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coaches, trains and manages MSL performance including monitoring metrics towards set KPIs ensuring excellence in execution of the MSL role towards achieving strategic and tactical goals.
- Ensures strong career pathways are established for the team to ensure talent engagement and retention.
- Understands and meets needs of product lifecycle management through resource deployment planning meeting stakeholder engagement strategies.
- Thinks strategically in the development and execution of tactical Medical Engagement Plans and MSL tools aligned with the Brand strategic focus.
- Ensures that MSLs have robust up-to-date scientific knowledge to facilitate the MSL in timely, appropriate, balanced, scientific exchanges with key internal and external experts.
- Demonstrates the value of Astellas medical and the value of Astellas products through supporting strong MSL relationships with key internal and external stakeholders
- Able to oversee insights generation activities and ensure actionable insights are incorporated in strategic planning processes
- Collaborates cross functionally with internal stakeholders to support the generation and communication of scientific and medical insights to internal stakeholders.
- Ensures excellence in execution of all governance processes and manages MSL resources and budgets.
Key Deliverables:
- Identifies competency gaps and training needs
- MSL Performance appraisals
- Provides clear direction and communicates the expectations to the MSL team to ensure an understanding of the rationale for business decisions in accordance with Medical Affairs strategy
- Tracks and monitors agreed KPIs as well as develop and execute remedial plans, as necessary
- Communicates the value of MSL activity internally
- Reviews, monitors, and analyse field insights concerning Astellas’ strategy, products, image, competition and stakeholder needs
- Share best practices/key learnings across the organization
- Budget planning and management.

Qualifications and experience required:
- Master’s degree in a health-related science
- Solid experience in the pharmaceutical industry and/or in the medical field (e.g. Medical Affairs, Product Management, Clinical Research).
- Solid experience as an MSL/Senior MSL
- Proven line management experience
