Job Description

As Senior Project Engineer, you will be the technical engineering leader and subject matter expert for the Plant of the Future projects. You will facilitate the development of Plant of the Future initiatives and projects from idea/concept, through the design, Proof of Concept, production trials, FAT, Commissioning and Qualification, to full working system that meet CHEP Global safety and quality standard and can be deployed across CHEP’s Global Service Centre Network.

You will also lead the implementation of the technical skills and Technology Transfer & Training (TT&T) for Plant of the Future initiatives and projects, ensuring service centres have the correct technical skills, systems and processes for efficient running and maintenance of automation equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

Supporting the Programme Manager to develop project plans and successfully execute them in accordance with established schedule, cost and performance standards.
Supporting the Programme Manager to develop Capital Expenditure Authorization documents to include cost estimates and project justification.
Managing and directing the development of innovation work by suppliers. Leading technical reviews of proposals and supporting at suppliers’ sites when required.
Ensuring that the latest technologies for design and testing are being used and taken advantage of. Specifically, the building of a digital twin model to allow offline testing of Programming and sequencing. Also incorporating the appropriate use of AR, AI and ML technologies.
Ensuring that all Human-Machine interfaces are evaluated and tested to ensure the maximum ease of use and safety of all personnel.
Managing all technical aspects associated with capital project execution to include equipment layout and specifications development, vendor selection and requests for quote, purchase order generation, contractor selection, on-site supervision during the installation and start-up of equipment, and proper tagging and accounting of new equipment.
Maintaining strict fiduciary controls, managing capital budgets, and accurately forecasting monthly spending
Ensuring that all necessary safe work practices are adhered to by both CHEP and contractor personnel.
Coordinating training of on-site personnel as needed for system operation and maintenance.
Experience and Skills:

Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Manufacturing Engineering, or relevant experience.
Significant background of project engineering and / or related project management experience
Experience working as an Engineer on Innovation and automation projects.
Demonstrated process improvement experience
Knowledgeable in the utilization of material handling and related light industrial equipment
Knowledge of industrial controls and automation to include PLC and Scada systems.
Knowledge of the utilisation of AI, ML and AR in Industrial applications
Skilled in the use of one or more CAD software packages such as AutoCAD
Strong verbal, written, presentation and interpersonal skills
Strong attention to detail
Excellent time management skills and the ability to handle complexity
Ability to work across cultures and manage multiple stakeholders
