The Role
Part of IAG, Ambiata is a data science services company which provides Machine Learning (ML) and AI services and supporting software infrastructure both to the market and within IAG. We focus on ethical automated decision systems.
Ambiata is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join us in the design, implementation and ongoing operation of our AI and ML services which support personalisation and automated customer decisioning.
We are looking for a top-quality candidate with a strong interest and proven passion for Machine Learning and has a track record of solving complex problems with high quality and maintainable code, underpinned with a willingness to learn new things and share what they know.

Key Responsibilities:
Reliable, high-quality software engineering is the foundation on which Ambiata’s delivered services rest. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be a critical member of the team delivering high-quality designs, code, documentation, and tests for our systems.
- Working closely with the rest of the team to understand client, product and internal requirements for building and deploying our AI and ML solutions and translating those requirements into software that materially impact the business and improve customer experience.
- Identify performance, accuracy or quality issues and come up with novel ways to solve them.
- Full lifecycle of application code, from design through to delivery and deployment, including DevOps practices.
- Design and implement scalable web service APIs.
- Document and demonstrate solutions by developing documentation, flowcharts, layouts, diagrams charts, code comments and clear code.
- Improve operations by conducting systems analysis and recommending changes in policies, processes and procedures.
- Keep updated by studying state-of-the-art development tools, programming techniques and computing equipment.
Skills & Experience
- A successful candidate will be a versatile software practitioner with solid Linux and Unix skills, as well as a background in software development, software architecture and knowledge of DevOps processes and practices;
- Extensive experience developing in Python (3.x preferred);
- Proven expertise in REST API design and implementation using current web server development tools and methodologies;
- A history of developing robust and secure applications. (We love code examples – please send us anything you have developed that we can look at, e.g., open-source projects);
- Ability to collaborate and grow with a multidisciplinary, regionally dispersed software engineering team;
- Proficiency in Software Development Best Practices (SCM / Unit Tests); and
- Within the DevOps area, broad knowledge and experience with:
o Cloud technologies (Amazon Web Services preferred);
o CI/CD pipelines; and
o Docker and Kubernetes deployments.
