Site Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Leader

Essential Job Functions

• Develop the detailed EHS procedure based on the vaccine process development at the site and Biosafety Level 2 guidelines
• SME in the areas of biosafety, BSL2, industrial hygiene, and occupational safety, and assist in hazard identification, hazard evaluation, and the development of controls appropriate to the work being performed. This includes maintaining the site safety hazard lists, knowledge and expertise of: biological, chemical, physical, safety, ergonomic and psychosocial hazards. Be the repository of the SDS Safety Data Sheets for the site.
• Implement the procedure of disinfection, decontamination and inactivation of infectious materials. that are consistent across different departments.
• General safety advocate for the facility, ensuring all that the enter the facility understand the safety issues at the site, and stock the facility with appropriate safety gear and phone numbers for support should an event occur.
• Interface with all site employees, construction projects and collaborate with other WuXi EHS leaders to ensure the site has developed the latest standards and requirements in all aspects of EHS.
• Interface with local and federal government officials in all areas of expertise, including Chemical Sector Security and specialty substance tracking.
• Interface with client to explain the EHS management system and host the EHS audits.
• Design, set up and optimize EHS management system. Establish and implement EHS SOPs and procedures. Develop and enforce organization environment, safety and health programs in compliance with all relevant local, state and Federal regulations and guidelines and industry best practices. Examples of programs include Lockout / Tagout, Hazard Communication, Respiratory Protection, Confined Space Entry, Emergency Action, Fire Prevention, Exposure Control, Waste Minimization, Waste Management, Contingency Planning, Biologic Safety, etc.
• Identify potential lab and manufacturing operation risks and facilitate the operation process to eliminate or minimize the safety risks to employees and the impact on the facility operations. Be responsible to respond to hazardous material emergencies, and EHS incident/near miss investigation and follow up CAPA.
• Build employee training and emergency preparedness programs. Conduct employee training.
• Responsible for client and external EHS agencies’ inspection and ensure compliance criteria met and any corrective actions are fully implemented.
• Be able to understand and articulate the business drivers aligned with safety strategy

Qualifications

Requirements

• Bachelor degree in science discipline (Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene is preferred).
• Over 5-year pharmaceutical company EHS working experience, and 2-year EHS management experience.
• Knowledge with viral vaccine or biologics process development
• Extensive knowledge with biohazard, disinfection and decontamination of infectious materials
• Professional certification such as Registered Biosafety Professional or certified Biological Safety Professional is desirable.
• Extensive knowledge of OSHA regulations and other Federal, State and Local EHS regulations.
• Implement and maintain EHS Management system.
• Good communication and coordination skill. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to establish working relationships with diverse groups.
• Must be able to work in Lab setting with Biohazards /various Chemicals
• Must be able to wear appropriate PPE
• Must be able to work in environment with variable noise levels
• Ability to stand /Sit/walk for long periods of time
• Ability to Lift 50 lbs. occasionally
