Sr Reporting Analyst

Under the direct supervision of the Manager, the senior analyst is responsible for uploading, validating, balancing and analyzing various performance, analytics and risk data within the Global Performance Measurement and Risk applications. The position will also be responsible for producing and validating various Performance, Risk, and Characteristics reports on a recurring and adhoc basis.

The candidate for this position should be a self-motivated problem solver who demonstrates the ability to create and modify procedures to protect and improve the performance reporting process, as well as complete projects.

Key Responsibilities / Duties:

  • The analyst must train and educate others on performance measurement theory and methodology, as well as the performance measurement process internally.
  • Prepare analytics, performance reports and risk on a recurring and ad hoc basis.
  • Reconcile and update portfolio/benchmark performance and validate, identify, investigate and resolve security level discrepancies at the transaction, position, and pricing level in Global Performance Measurement and Risk applications.
  • Retrieve, validate and upload data from various source/vendor systems and upload to the department’s applications.
  • Validate completeness and accuracy of data in department’s performance, risk, and analytics tools.
  • Monitor various performance and control reports, identify potential performance issues, research underlying data that may cause performance discrepancies and resolve by following procedures.
  • Compile data and supporting documentation for external audits, reviews, and GIPS verification.
  • Support and provide valuable inputs to our business partners with special projects.
  • Effectively communicate with Global Performance Measurement and Risk, Operations, and IT staff to resolve data issues and escalate problems to the appropriate groups.
  • The analyst must have strong communication skills and must be able to answer questions from other performance analysts, operations associates, portfolio managers and other users regarding the details of performance calculation process and auditing procedures.
  • Analyst must support the manager in allocating, reallocating, assigning tasks, must be willing to monitor and mentor in the absence of the manager and must act as a guiding force.

Work Experience / Knowledge:

A minimum of 4-5 years experience in Investment banking/management industry is preferred. This should include

  • Mandatory experience in Fund accounting/fund reconciliation (Equity, Fixed Income or Balanced)
  • Mandatory experience in Equity/Fixed Income Performance measurement and Fixed income attribution analysis
  • Experience in calculating tracking error (Ex Post), Value-at-Risk and Volatility
  • Experience in Factset, Bloomberg and any other performance system

Skills / Other Personal Attributes Required:

  • It is essential that the analyst has a very good understanding of portfolio accounting, and that he/she be able to identify and collaborate with operations to correct any issues in reconciliation of the portfolio transactions and holdings, and ensure the accuracy and timeliness of all information received.
  • The analyst must possess thorough knowledge of performance measurement methodologies, techniques and concepts and attribution analysis.
  • Excellent organization skills, the ability to work under pressure and attention to detail and accuracy a necessity.
  • Skills in Microsoft Office, MS Access, experience and ability to write and create macros and cohesive documentation.
  • Self-starter, shows strong self-initiative to meet deliverables and overcome issues.
  • Good people management skills, ability to provide process and development feedback and train team members on process activities
  • Client management skills are essential
  • Able to take ownership and follow through with tasks until completion.
  • Able to operate and effectively communicate in a team environment.
  • In addition the candidate must possess people management skills and should have mentoring and monitoring skills.

Working Conditions:

  • Normal office environment with little exposure to noise, dust and temperatures
  • The ability to lift, carry or otherwise move objects of up to 30 pounds is also necessary
  • Normally works a regular schedule of hours, however hours may vary depending upon the project or assignment
  • Hours include alternate shift work, evenings and/or weekends and may include 24 hour a day on call support by pager and/or cell phone
