Cloud Engineer – Velogica

Job Summary

This role supports the growing Underwriting Innovations cloud environment primarily through coordination with third party service providers and internal stakeholders and through direct involvement in deploying and maintaining solutions used to meet business objectives.  Skills and experience in cloud architecture and programming combined with an ability to help achieve business outcomes with technical solutions make this a role that prepare us well for our digital future.

 

-Key duties and responsibilities

 

  • In coordination with senior team members or within an appropriate range of discretion, design, develop and maintain standards, best practices, and accompanying tooling, for the services and infrastructure which support the Underwriting Innovations environment (including Velogica).
  • Identify, propose, and implement opportunities to improve the efficiency, effectiveness, and security of delivery solutions.  Facilitate communication and knowledge sharing of those opportunities between the relevant teams.
  • Leverage automation and repeatable “Infrastructure as code” (for example, creating and versioning CloudFormation templates for building out Velogica environments based on the requirements of the Infrastructure team).
  • Support the needs of Underwriting Innovation department, including:
    • Design and implement managed infrastructure changes required by project work.
    • Review, approve and execute high level and detailed technical plans.
    • Provide back up support for architectural reviews and code reviews as necessary.
  • Responsible for participating in production support rotation coverage in coordination with 3rd party support provider (including availability to support early Sunday morning patching schedule).
  • Foster and participate in a culture of continuous improvement and psychological safety.
  • Adhere to all Information Security policies and best practices, including security awareness training and other information protection initiatives.
  • Create and maintain process documentation as required.
  • Participate in audit evidence gathering.

 

Required experience & competencies

 

Experience:

  • 3 years of experience working with AWS cloud technologies, experience plus an Amazon certification is preferred
  • A broad understanding of IT infrastructure concepts, with a focus on experience with the following technical skills:
    • Use and management of common AWS services, such as EC2, S3, Route53, VPC, & RDS
    • Linux operating systems
    • Security design & implementation concepts
  • Experience programming or scripting in languages such as Python, shell, Java
  • Demonstrated ability to concurrently participate in multiple projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to use skillsets to translate business needs into technical solutions.

-Required Education

  • BS/BA technical degree or equivalent experience
  • AWS Certification in addition preferred
