The opportunity

Reporting to the Manager, US Tax Planning & Controversy, the US Tax Planning Specialist will be responsible for assisting the Corporate Tax Department with federal and state income tax research, tax planning, tax due diligence, tax modeling, monitoring tax law changes, review of federal and state tax provisions and compliance and other special projects as needed.

 

The successful candidate will work with our businesses, the tax management team and our outside advisors to carry out his or her responsibilities. As a member of our Corporate Tax leadership team, the incumbent will bring initiative, embrace technology, be a change champion, a strategic leader and a team player. The candidate will have proven experience exercising thought leadership on a successful tax team and supporting the development of team members.

 

What you’ll do

  • Support development and implementation of US tax planning projects, including development of ideas to optimize the company’s cash tax position and effective tax rate
  • Research and document tax authority in support of tax planning and tax return positions
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory developments and make reports to management and business units
  • Identify risks, obstacles and issues; Recommend solutions and work with management to resolve
  • Perform due diligence with regards to tax consequences of transactions including M&A activity
  • Help develop and maintain strong relationships with external auditors
  • Lead special projects related to income tax issues
  • Team with tax accounting function to meet ASC 740 reporting requirements
  • Identify opportunities and develop new processes to aid in strategic tax planning
  • Provide technical training and development to team members

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • CPA designation
  • Minimum 6 years total related experience, including minimum 4 years Big 4 public accounting or law firm experience handling complex tax issues and analysis
  • Demonstrated ability to work across functional lines to deliver tax planning, compliance, audit and accounting objectives
  • Solid understanding of fundamentals of subchapters C and K and practical application
  • Experience with consolidated returns, attribute planning, intercompany restructuring, reorganizations and cross border taxation strongly preferred
  • Proven team player with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organizational skills that allow the candidate to manage multiple tasks and competing priorities
  • Results-oriented with strong ability to identify tax risk
  • Accountable to meet commitments while consistently delivering results within required timelines
  • Ability to think strategically and work well under pressure
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Capable of interacting with individuals at all levels of the organization both inside and outside tax

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • J.D., Masters in Taxation and/or graduate degree in a related field of study highly preferred
